L&Q becomes first G15 housing association to adopt Shared Ownership Code
One of the UK’s largest providers of shared ownership homes, L&Q, has become the first G15 housing association to adopt the Shared Ownership Code, operated by the New Homes Quality Board (NHQB). This milestone builds sector-wide momentum and brings meaningful additional scale and visibility to the Code.
The recent adoption of the Code by L&Q, Abri, Poplar HARCA and LiveWest marks a significant expansion in reach. With these latest adopters, over 22,000 of the UK’s approximately 250,000 shared ownership homes are now covered by the Code, helping to drive consistency in standards across the sector. This momentum continues to build with a further eight providers currently progressing through the adoption process.
L&Q houses around 250,000 people, primarily across Greater London and Greater Manchester, and runs an active development programme that delivers new shared ownership homes in these regions as part of its portfolio of over 11,000 homes. The organisation supports customers throughout their shared ownership journey, from initial purchase through to staircasing and resale.
By adopting the Shared Ownership Code, L&Q commits to a consistent set of requirements that covers transparency, customer service and fair treatment across its shared ownership offer.
L&Q’s adoption of the Code is intended to provide customers with clearer information, more consistent service, and greater confidence at every stage of their shared ownership journey, as shared ownership continues to play an important role in helping people access home ownership.
Natasha Greenwood, Director of Shared Ownership at the New Homes Quality Board (NHQB), said:
“L&Q’s adoption is an important milestone for the Shared Ownership Code. As the first G15 housing association to adopt the framework, L&Q is helping to set the pace for the sector and demonstrating a clear commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality outcomes for shared ownership customers.
“Their adoption further strengthens the Code’s reach and builds momentum towards a more transparent, customer-focused shared ownership market. We look forward to working with L&Q as they implement the Code.”
Steve Moseley, Executive Group Director, Governance and Transformation at L&Q, said:
“We’re committed to playing our part in creating a stronger, fairer Shared Ownership market. The Code addresses the issues shared owners tell us matter most, including clearer expectations, a better customer experience and greater transparency.”
“We look forward to working with the New Homes Quality Board to implement these measures and improve outcomes for both current and future shared owners.”
NHQB is encouraging other housing providers to follow the example set by recent Code Adopters. Wider adoption will help strengthen customer confidence and promote a more consistent, high-quality standard of service across the sector.
